ADHD Coaching for Women
Neuroaffirming coaching for late-diagnosed women with ADHD
Have you spent years feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, emotionally sensitive or somehow always struggling to keep up, despite trying incredibly hard?
Many women with ADHD go unnoticed for years. Instead of being recognised, they are often labelled as anxious, disorganised, “too emotional”, lazy, forgetful or simply not living up to their potential. Many become experts at masking their difficulties, overworking, people pleasing and pushing themselves beyond their limits.
By the time many women receive an ADHD diagnosis (or begin to suspect ADHD may explain lifelong struggles) they are already experiencing burnout, chronic stress, low self-worth or emotional exhaustion.
ADHD coaching for women offers a supportive space to better understand how your brain works, reduce self-blame and develop more compassionate, sustainable ways of living and working.
I provide specialist ADHD coaching for women in-person (Somerset, UK) and online, supporting late-diagnosed women, neurodivergent women and women navigating ADHD alongside work, relationships, motherhood, menopause and everyday life.
ADHD in women can look different
ADHD in women is often misunderstood or missed entirely.
Many women learn to mask their difficulties from a young age, appearing capable externally while struggling internally with overwhelm, emotional intensity, exhaustion and constant self-criticism.
You may experience:
-
chronic overwhelm and mental exhaustion
-
emotional dysregulation or rejection sensitivity
-
difficulty switching off or relaxing
-
perfectionism and people pleasing
-
struggling to prioritise or complete tasks
-
forgetting things despite trying hard to stay organised
-
feeling emotionally reactive or “too sensitive”
-
cycles of motivation followed by shutdown
-
shame, frustration or low self-esteem
-
difficulties balancing motherhood, work and daily demands
-
worsening ADHD symptoms during perimenopause or menopause
For many women, receiving a diagnosis later in life can bring both relief and grief. Finally understanding yourself differently while also reflecting on years spent misunderstood.
What is ADHD coaching?
ADHD coaching is a collaborative, neuroaffirming approach that helps you understand your patterns, strengths and challenges while developing practical strategies that work for your individual brain and life.
Unlike generic productivity approaches, ADHD coaching recognises that many conventional systems are not designed for neurodivergent people.
Coaching may support you with:
-
emotional regulation
-
executive functioning challenges
-
motivation and task initiation
-
burnout recovery
-
self-worth and self-compassion
-
boundaries and people pleasing
-
ADHD-friendly routines and systems
-
work and career challenges
-
motherhood and mental load
-
navigating relationships
-
identity after diagnosis
Coaching is not about “fixing” you or making you fit neurotypical expectations.
It is about understanding yourself more deeply and learning how to work with your brain rather than constantly against it.
ADHD burnout in women
Many women with ADHD spend years overcompensating, masking and trying to meet expectations that feel impossible to sustain. This can lead to ADHD burnout, a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion that often includes:
-
shutdown or paralysis
-
increased emotional sensitivity
-
reduced capacity
-
difficulty functioning day to day
-
chronic fatigue
-
irritability or overwhelm
-
withdrawal from work, relationships or responsibilities
Burnout is not laziness or failure. Often, it is the result of years of pushing beyond your nervous system’s limits without adequate understanding or support.
ADHD coaching can help you identify patterns contributing to burnout and develop more sustainable ways of managing energy, demands and self-expectations.
Masking and people pleasing
Many neurodivergent women become highly skilled at masking, hiding struggles, copying others socially, over-preparing or constantly trying to appear “together”. While masking may help someone cope externally, it often comes at a significant emotional cost.
Women with ADHD frequently describe:
-
feeling disconnected from themselves
-
difficulty knowing their own needs
-
fear of disappointing others
-
chronic guilt or shame
-
anxiety around being perceived negatively
-
exhaustion from having to constantly prove competence
Part of coaching may involve gently exploring where masking has developed and helping you build greater self-understanding, authenticity and self-trust.
Motherhood, menopause and ADHD
ADHD symptoms often become more noticeable during major life transitions.
Many women seek support during:
-
motherhood
-
parenting neurodivergent children
-
career changes
-
relationship stress
-
perimenopause or menopause
Hormonal changes can significantly impact ADHD symptoms, emotional regulation, energy levels and executive functioning. Women often describe feeling as though strategies that once worked are suddenly no longer enough.
Coaching can provide practical and emotional support during these transitions, helping you navigate changing demands with greater compassion and realistic expectations.
