What is Positive Psychology Coaching?

Positive psychology is "the scientific study of what makes life most worth living" . It is "the scientific study of positive human functioning and flourishing on multiple levels that include the biological, personal, relational, institutional, cultural, and global dimensions of life". Positive psychology is concerned with eudaimonia, "the good life", reflection about what holds the greatest value in life – the factors that contribute the most to a well-lived and fulfilling life.

Coaching has been defined as "... unlocking people’s potential to maximize their own performance.”  (John Whitmore. ) 

So a positive psychology coach uses the principles of positive psychology to focus on the potential use of client's strengths for enhancing day-to-day personal happiness. This includes building in more pleasure, engagement and meaning to lives.

So think of it as unlocking your potential, to be the best you can be, and flourish at the same time.

What it is not:

Positive psychology coaching is NOT psychotherapy or counselling. 

 

Positive Psychology Coaching is not about being falsely optimistic, in fact studies show that unrealistic optimism is not helpful.
